Note to Butterfly management: Please, please make your Energy Force shoe line in larger than size 9 size. In my opinion, this is the absolute best table tennis shoe ever — at least some of my friends would really like to BUY it, haha, and I would like to get another (version updated) pair to review here. But we’re not willing to cram our feet into the small sizes you offer. Please!

Sandpaper on Nittaku blade

Tonight I’m playing my first official sandpaper TT tournament. It’s a “FASTT” (Federal Association of Sandpaper TT) event, and I’m excited. This picture shows the Nittaku “Vioncello” blade I’ll be using, with ordinary fine sandpaper that I glued onto it. It’s an older blade I otherwise don’t use anymore because it had some chips around the edges. Played with the combo a couple of times and I like it, so hopefully it will perform well when it counts tonight.

Ping pong balls for sale in the cookie isle

Today as I was getting a few last minute things at Publix (my grocery store here in South Florida), I noticed all these TT balls in the cookie isle. I like it.

Not your usual TT robot

I wonder if in 5 or 10 years (or sooner), instead of using our usual TT robot (I happen to like my Newgy 2040), we will reserve solo training sessions for this kind of robot? It’s hard to imagine that this kind of creature would be able to anticipate and return any shot we delivered to it, but you never know!

I love to see stuff like this happening: a future NBC comedy centered around table tennis. To me it shows just how much table tennis is taking off! An except from a recent article (which can be found here):

“…NBC is stepping into the ping pong world.

Following a competitive bidding war, the network is developing Pong, a single-camera comedy based on the 2010 book Everything You Know Is Pong by Roger Bennett and Eli Horowitz…”

“Pong revolves around a table tennis star living in the past who tries to survive in the real world. Bennett and Horowitz’s illustrated book is a tribute to ping pong and includes “tales from the table” from Nick Hornby and the New York Times crossword puzzle editor Will Shortz, among others…”

It’s so fun for our favorite sport to be catching on like this! By the way, the book, “Everything you know is Pong” is an excellent read. It’s one of those books you can just pick up and browse a couple of pages at a time.
